چکیده

In the Internet and Communication Technology (ICT) field, sharing and distribution of information is very important. Various mechanisms and techniques are used to manage information; one of these is based on peer-to-peer networks. In today’s world and in the near future, the exchange and distribution of information will be a very important aspect in the workplace and in daily life. Consequently, mobile devices, devices for home entertainment, personal computers and office terminals must have the mechanisms to achieve the above functionality. Thus the peer-to-peer networks can be used to achieve (Tomoya & Shigeki, 2003) the following: Video conferences or phone calls (Bakos et al., 2006), in which more users can communicate together simultaneously. The distribution of multimedia contents provided by a single source node, for example: streaming distribution of TV contents or radio broadcasting contents (Ciullo et al., 2008; Leonardi et al., 2008; Mazzini & Rovatti, 2008). An example of a real-time algorithm used to create a simple distribution peer-to-peer network on asymmetric channels is given in article (Mazzini & Rovatti, 2008) and the issues of performance of peer-topeer file sharing over asymmetric and wireless networks is addressed in article (Lien, 2005). Information sharing, for example in a company, the peer-to-peer network system can be used by employees to allow them to work in a shared manner. In daily life, the peer-to-peer network system can be used for sharing personal information such as audio and video contents, documents and others. The more significant peer-to-peer applications used for this purpose are: Gnutella (“The Gnutella Protocol Specification v0.4”; Matei et al, 2002; Wang et al., 2007), Kademlia (Maymounkov & Mazieres, 2002), KaZaA (“http://www.kazaa.com.”), Bit-Torrent (“http://www.bittorrent.com.”), massively multiplayer online game (MMOG) (Carter et al., 2010; Tay, 2005).

A Survey on Multicast Routing Approaches in Wireless Mesh Networks

Wireless mesh networks (WMNs) which mediates the broadband Internet access, have been recently received many attentions by the researchers. In order to increase capacity in these networks, nodes are equipped with multiple radios tuned on multiple channels emerging multi radio multi-channel WMNs (MRMC WMNs). Therefore, a vital challenge that poses in MRMC WMNs is how to properly assign channels ...

Scalable multimedia streaming model in heterogeneous networks

In a Peer-to-Peer (P2P) overlay network, a large number and various types of peers are cooperating by exchanging multimedia contents. Here, multimedia streaming is a key technology to realise multimedia applications. In multimedia streaming applications, multimedia contents are required to be efficiently delivered to processes in a real-time manner. Some contents peer may not send packets at a ...

Improving Streaming Capacity in Multi-Channel P2P VoD Systems via Intra-Channel and Cross-Channel Resource Allocation

Multi-channel Peer-to-Peer (P2P) Video-on-Demand (VoD) systems can be categorized into independent-channel P2P VoD systems and correlated-channel P2P VoD systems. Streaming capacity for a channel is defined as the maximal streaming rate that can be received by every user of the channel. In this paper, we study the streaming capacity problem in multi-channel P2P VoD systems. In an independent-ch...

Routing Metric for Interference and Channel Diversity in Multi-Radio Wireless Mesh Networks

More than providing a wireless structure for Internet access, Wireless Mesh Networks are being challenged to support diverse kinds of multimedia applications such as Voice over IP and video streaming in publish-subscriber and peer-to-peer service models. In this context, several routing metrics have been proposed to improve the routing performance as well as the network capability to satisfy th...

Peer-to-peer Communications to Prevent Broadcast Diffusion from Feedback Implosion

Abstract—Nowadays low cost UMTS and soon HSDPA network developments lead to an increase in multimedia broadcasted services. The new standard for broadcast over mobiles, DVB-H, needs service reliability. This issue is tricky, because in a broadcast transmission, the sender may not be able to receive all acknowledgements from all users like in TCP. In this paper, we evaluate the performance and b...
